When the State created Solid Waste Management Districts, recycling took its place as a cornerstone of waste management philosophy in Ohio. Since 1990, Ohio businesses and communities have recycled over 102 million tons of material. Solid Waste Districts have been integral to initiating and maintaining the infrastructure necessary for this accomplishment. While some districts provide funding and education for recycling efforts, others actively provide recycling services. A districts chosen strategy depends entirely upon the needs of the individual community.
